Geoff Tate and his unwavering and captivating voice performed his Operation: Mindcrime album front to back with perfection. This tour is historic as it will be the last time the album will be performed in this manner, the final chapter, as he's calling it. You definitely do not want to miss the chance to see this show and make sure to buy those tickets early as these concerts, by date of show, are completely sold out.
I've seen and covered many shows of Geoff's over recent years and seeing him performing this, in this way, he almost has more of an enlightened glow about him.
He always has the best time performing for us on stage, and it definitely shows, but it just seemed a little 'more' this evening, if you can imagine that to be possible. As always, he surrounds himself with a band whose members render every song, every note, as we remembered it coming from our radios and CD players, with passion and perfection.
This concert wasn't just another show; it was a celebration of music that transcended generations. So many brought their children, from teens and younger, which makes you internally smile as you know this love of music will stay with them for a lifetime.
The high energy concert comes complete with a dynamic light show that thrilled the audience keeping all eyes glued to the stage for what's next. Though tricky for a photographer, exciting for all in attendance! I'm not sure about anyone else who has seen this tour so far, but, I, personally, have one thing still reverberating in my head. The iconic sound of that voice singing two words, "Opeeeeration miiiiiiiindcrime......". This stayed with me through the trek home and into the next day. Geoff is truly a phenomenal singer and performer.
After the full rendition of the album, Geoff then treated our audience to more favorites including, 'Empire' and 'Silent Lucidity'. He closed with 'Jet City Woman' with the audience singing every word! These added songs at the end of the shows will vary throughout the tour, we believe, which keeps things fresh and different for the many stops along the way.
Geoff is currently working on Operation: Mindcrime III that he has hinted will be released in segments. This will mark the end if that saga.
Opening band was something a bit different for our audience. Their music is bluesy, folky storytelling at its finest. The band is lead by singer Tomas McCarthy, hailing from Cork, Ireland, who has a captivating Irish speaking voice and gravelly singing voice. The songs and stories take you on exciting journeys. He is accompanied by wife, Clodagh, on sax, and James Keegan, on guitar. This trio, from our understanding, was hand picked by Geoff for this tour.
